Night Diving

Depth: Most night dives are fairly shallow

Skill Lever: Intermediate to Advanced

Night diving is one of the most exciting and visually stimulating experiences a diver can have. But, to anyone who is new to diving or new to night diving, the thought of submerging into the dark waters can be a daunting one. Truthfully, most night dives start at dusk when the sky is still light, just before the sun fully sets. This allows the divers to prepare for the dive and enter the water just before dark. We love diving and night diving adds a whole new element of excitement. And, because you bring your own light source, you see all the beautiful colors God painted his creatures. If you've never tried night diving you should add at least one night dive to your next dive vacation. Most dive shops and outfitters offer night diving so inquire next time you are in Cozumel or where ever it is your love of diving takes you.

Here are a few suggestions we have to prepare you for night diving and make your dive more enjoyable. Our approach to diving is that it can be enjoyed with inexpensive but reliable equipment. All of the equipment we suggest is reasonably priced and affordable. Of course there are always more expensive offerings with additional bells and whistles. We will provide links from our "equipment we like" page to provide you with examples of our suggestions.

- Have a reliable primary light.

- Have a reliable secondary back up light.

- Have a signalling device like a strobe and an inflatable signal tube with reflective markings.

- Use a lighted signal marker attached to your tank or BC. This can be a chem light but if you prefer to take the more eco friendly approach then use a battery operated light. This marks you to other divers.

- Have a whistle to make your presence known, if needed, at the surfase.

- Always buddy up and stay with your dive buddy.

- Dive a familiar site. Diving a site in the daylight then at night will provide you with completely different experiences and beauty.

       - Be curtious to other divers and avoid shining your light in their eyes!
