Palancar Horseshoe

Depth: 25' - 120'

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

A series of tightly packed giant coral heads rise from 100' to within 20' of the surface. A spectacular view for camera lenses pointing up for profile type shots. One of Cozumel's busiest deep dives, currents are usually running and visibility stays around 200' minimum.

Palancar Horseshoe gets its name from the shape of its large u shaped coral which can be seen from the surface. This dive is usually a multi level drift dive and ends about 25' deep on the top of the reef. The corals form tall towers, canyons and swim throughs that are fun to explore. The coral and sponges are the attraction on this dive.

The Palancar Reef sites are considered to be Cozumel's most famous dive sites. The shallower sections will please snorkelers as well. There are four distinct dive sites here, Palencar Gardens, Horseshoe, Caves, and Bricks. Palancar Caves and Bricks are the deepest sections. Turtles are almost sure to be sited as well as countless other beautifully colored reef fish. Palancar Reef should be part of any Cozumel dive trip.
